Master camouflage and deception - whether you are hiding or seeking

MECCHA CHAMELEON is easy to pick up but has surprising depth. This guide covers everything from basic camouflage techniques to advanced Seeker strategies. Whether you are hiding or seeking, these tips will improve your game immediately (also sometimes searched as "mecha chameleon").

Getting Started

The Basics

Each round, players are split into two teams: Hiders and Seekers. The rules are simple.

As a Hider

  1. Use the painting tool during prep phase
  2. Color yourself to match the environment
  3. Strike a pose that blends with nearby objects
  4. Stay still - movement reveals your position
  5. Survive until time runs out to win

As a Seeker

  1. Wait outside the area during prep phase
  2. Enter when the round starts
  3. Scan the environment for anything off
  4. Tag Hiders you find before time runs out
  5. Find everyone to win the round

Hider Strategies

Camouflage Mastery

Becoming invisible takes practice. Here are the techniques the best Hiders use.

1. Study the Scene First

When the preparation phase starts, do not paint immediately. Spend the first 10 seconds looking at the environment. Find the patterns - what colors dominate? Are there objects you could mimic? A good disguise starts with observation.

2. Match, Don't Just Paint

One flat color rarely works. Most environments have gradients, shadows, and multiple colors. Use the painting tool to blend multiple shades. A wall might be green at the top but darker near the floor - match that gradient.

3. Pose Matters as Much as Paint

Your character's pose is just as important as the colors. Strike a pose that matches the objects around you. If you are hiding among potted plants, crouch low. If next to a painting, stand still and flat against the wall.

4. Movement Is the Tell

The most common way Hiders get caught is by moving. Once you are in position, stay still. Even a small adjustment can catch a Seeker's eye. If you must move, do it when the Seeker is looking the other way.

5. Use the Environment, Not Just the Walls

Beginner Hiders hide against walls. Advanced Hiders find objects to blend into - barrels, furniture, decorations. Look for objects with simple shapes that your character can mimic.

Seeker Strategies

How to Find Hidden Players

Being a good Seeker is about observation, patience, and knowing where Hiders like to hide.

1. Scan Systematically

Do not dart your eyes around. Scan the environment in a grid pattern - left to right, top to bottom. Systematic scanning catches more imposters than quick glances.

2. Look for Color Mismatches

Most Hiders will not match the environment perfectly. Look for edges where the color seems slightly off - a shade too bright, a hue that doesn't quite match the surrounding area.

3. Check Corners and Edges

Hiders love corners and edges because they provide natural cover. Pay extra attention to areas where walls meet floors, or where objects overlap. These are prime hiding spots.

4. Watch for Movement

If you cannot find anyone, stand still and watch. Nervous Hiders often give themselves away by moving slightly. Patience is a Seeker best weapon.

5. Trust Your Gut

If something feels off, investigate it. Your brain is good at spotting anomalies even when you cannot articulate what is wrong. That slightly odd-shaped trash can? Check it.
