Hider Strategies

Best Camouflage Techniques

SGame-Changing
Object Mimicry

Find objects with recognizable silhouettes — barrels, trash cans, statues, furniture — and pose to match them exactly. The human eye recognizes shapes before colors. If your silhouette matches, you're half invisible already.

Gradient Blending

Don't paint yourself one flat color. Most environments have lighting gradients, shadows, and color variation. Match the gradient — darker at the bottom near the floor, lighter near light sources. Flat-color Hiders get caught instantly.

AHighly Effective
Corner Compression

Corners are powerful because they reduce your visible surface area. Tuck yourself into a corner where walls meet, matching both surfaces. From the Seeker's angle, you appear as just another shadow.

Crowd Blending

If the stage has repeated identical objects (a row of potted plants, lockers), join them. Position yourself among them and match their color. Seekers scanning quickly will see "another plant" and move on.

Height Variation

Most Hiders stay at ground level. Surprise Seekers by hiding at unusual heights — on top of shelves, behind elevated platforms, or tucked into ceiling fixtures. Seekers rarely look up.

BSolid Basics
Wall Camouflage

The most basic strategy — find a wall, paint yourself to match it, and stand still. It works but is the first place Seekers check. Elevate this by choosing walls with patterns or texture.

Dark Corner Hiding

Hide in shadowed areas of the map. Dark corners and dimly lit spots provide natural cover. Paint yourself dark and stay motionless. Simple but effective against casual Seekers.

Seeker Tactics

How to Find Hidden Players

Effective seeking is about pattern recognition and patience. These techniques will improve your catch rate dramatically.

The Grid Scan
— Very Effective

Divide the visible area into an imaginary grid. Scan each cell one by one, top to bottom, left to right. Systematic scanning is significantly more effective than random glancing.

Edge Detection
— Very Effective

Look at the edges between objects. Hiders often have slight color mismatches at the boundaries where their painted body meets the environment. These subtle edges are the #1 giveaway.

The Freeze Trick
— Very Effective

Stand completely still for 10-15 seconds and just watch. Nervous Hiders often interpret stillness as "the Seeker left" and start moving. Their movement reveals them instantly.

Height Check
— Very Effective

Deliberately look at elevated positions — tops of shelves, hanging objects, tall furniture. Most Hiders forget that Seekers can look up.

Count the Objects
— Situationally Effective

If a room has 4 barrels but you remember there were only 3, one of them is a Hider. Learn to mentally count repeated objects in each area.

Mistakes to Avoid

Common Beginner Errors

Painting one flat color
Use multiple shades to match environmental lighting and texture
Hiding in the same spot every round
Vary your hiding spots — Seekers learn patterns fast
Moving during the search phase
Stay completely still. Even small adjustments catch the eye
Choosing obvious hiding spots
Think like a Seeker — if it looks obvious to you, it's obvious to them
Ignoring the pose mechanic
Your character's pose is half the disguise. Match the shape of nearby objects

The most important tip: Have fun with it. MECCHA CHAMELEON is at its best when everyone is laughing at absurd disguises and unexpected reveals. Don't be afraid to try a terrible disguise — sometimes the worst ideas create the best memories.
